Challenge
OnYourMark partners with schools across the country to provide high-impact virtual literacy tutoring for K-5th graders, grounded in the Science of Reading and focused on early grades (K-2). They were growing quickly and didn’t have a streamlined way to look at and understand their student data. They also were unsure how clean their data was and worried they were susceptible to user and interpretation errors.
Solution
Our team reviewed all of OnYourMark’s data and worked with the team to investigate how they use data, what they want to learn from their data, and what their data were telling us. We held sessions with the team to discuss our process and to review data together, enabling them to build the muscle around data investigation and to see the results of their program.
As their executive director shared, “The most valuable part of our engagement was the time we had together to collaborate and interrogate data. Through those sessions, it increased skill building for our team. “
Results
“You came in and helped us sort out our data. You’re smart about data. We so often think about outcomes data and less about the day-to-day collection of the nuanced, specific data that allows us to understand those outcomes. You did well in asking us to describe the rationale for why we’re asking the questions we were. This was an important piece of the puzzle when building our systems.”
